5 best rv sewer hose support options to avoid accidents

We can all agree that one of the worst things about RVing is emptying your sewage, right?

If there was a product that could make this crappy job easier (see what we did there), assisting your sewer hose while draining would be a problem of the past! Luckily, there is a product out there for this specific problem: an RV sewer hose support!

But, are they even necessary? And which one should you buy? We answer those questions and more down below.

Let’s dive in!

Are RV Sewer Hose Supports Necessary?

Rv sewer hose

RV sewer hose supports aren’t only necessary—they’re incredibly important to have in your RV at all times! Sure, they benefit your RV sewer hose while you’re hooked up at a campground, but there is so much more to an RV sewer hose support that you might not know about!

Let’s quickly talk about each of these reasons!

Clears your RV sewer hose completely

A plastic sewer hose support is able to keep your sewer hose in place while allowing trouble free drainage at a gentle downward slope.

Having a slight slope is especially important if you happen to leave the grey water valve open during your stay as it allows liquid to run down into the drain immediately.

Prevents damage to your RV sewer hose

With all of the dirt, sticks, rocks, and debris that can be found at a dump station, it can be tough to properly protect your sewer hose without a sewer hose support.

Not only will you have to completely replace your sewer hose (which, let’s face it, can be pretty expensive), you’ll have to deal with all of your waste leaking out of your sewer hose while at the dump station. Yuck.

Helpful in cold weather

Planning on taking an RV trip during the cool, winter months? Have you thought about how your sewer hose will react to the chilly air?

If not, we implore you to start now! An Rv sewer hose support is able to drain sewer hoses completely and, without this feature, some waste may get stuck within your sewer hose and freeze.

While trouble-free drainage is an important aspect, a lightweight plastic sewer hose support also helps to hold your sewer hose in place and will protect the hose from sticking to the frozen ground.

An RV sewer hose support can be required at campgrounds

It seems so silly that a plastic sewer hose support can be required at an RV resort or park, but some RV campgrounds require you to have a sewer hose support along with your RV sewer hose (especially out west)!

As a matter of fact, in certain parts of Arizona, it’s illegal to leave sewer hoses on the ground at all.

The 5 Best RV Sewer Hose Support Options

The following RV sewer hose supports are the best on the market today.

Valterra slunky

Valterra is one of the most trusted brands in the RV industry. In fact, the Valterra Slunky has hundreds of amazing reviews from RVers across the country!

This RV sewer hose support model is wide enough (and has deep cradles) to offer more security and stability to your RV sewer hose. The textured base grips perfectly on the ground, regardless of what terrain is like.

Not only that, the metal hinges add extra durability and strength to this sewer hose support! To make this model even better, this RV sewer hose support comes with self-fastening straps that helps you easily store them in your RV (and when you’ve been RVing for a long time, you know how important it is to save space in your rig)!

2. Camco Sidewinder

Camco sidewinder

One of our favorite things about Camco is that they constantly provide amazing products for RVers. This Camco Sidewinder RV sewer hose support is a best seller (and it’s easy to see why).

For starters, the sidewinder RV sewer hose is made with heavy duty plastic. It’s able to lift your sewer hose off the ground without any problems whatsoever. This plastic sewer hose support is incredibly lightweight and portable, too.

This RV sewer hose support also comes with an orange custom fit storage handle that keeps the hose together! With easy carrying, additional support, and more, frequent travelers and one-off travelers alike will love this.

For starters, it’s one of the most straight-forward sewer hose supports on the market today. You get five elevated sections that you place on the ground one after the other. Each section is 24 inches in length, too!

This RV drain hose support is made with a strong poly material that is incredibly durable and lasts for years (regardless of the weather conditions). The lightweight plastic support also only weighs 5 ½ pounds!

Camco aluminum sewer hose support

Unlike your typical plastic sewer hose support, the Camco aluminum RV sewer hose support system is made with, well, aluminum!

This is one of those quality products that we’d recommend to family and friends in the RV space alike – this sewer hose support holds hoses incredibly well (and you may be the only camper who has an aluminum sewer hose support at RV parks).

At full length, this sewer hose support sits at 10 feet. On top of that, this item folds down to 6 inches for compact storage (and we all know how important storage space is in an RV).

What we love most about this sewer hose support:

  • This RV sewer hose support is very durable
  • The compact storage is a huge selling point
  • Unlike a plastic sewer hose support, this one does not break easily

What we dislike most about this sewer hose support:

  • Some have had issues with this camper sewer hose being very stiff

5. Valterra Easy Slider Support

Valterra sewer hose support

The Valterra Easy Slider Support is a plastic sewer hose support that acts as a gutter for your sewer hose to sit on. While this design is a bit weirder than the other options on our list, it’s able to hold the drainage hose and is made of a sturdy plastic.

With the Valterra Easy Slider, you get three separate sections (each 3’ in length). You can use all of them if necessary, but if you don’t need one, you’re not obligated to find a good place for it!

What we love most about this RV sewer hose support:

  • This RV sewer hose support is able to supply a steady flow
  • Stays in place thanks to its chain while in use
  • This model is compact which means easy storage

What we dislike most about this RV sewer hose support:

  • Some complain that this plastic sewer hose support cannot handle weight
  • Some have complained that this sewer hose support is far too small

DIY Camper Sewer Hose Support Ideas

While we would recommend purchasing a sewer hose support, you are able to DIY your own!

Take Victoria, for example. She went to Lowes, purchased a 10 foot gutter, and had it hold her sewer hose in place with a few cinder blocks to allow a steady, downward flow. Check out her video here:

Another way to DIY a camper sewer hose support is by using a PVC pipe like Jarrett and Kristin from The Touring Camper did!

However, this one will take a few more steps than Victoria’s DIY sewer hose support. For example, you’ll need a circular saw to cut the PVC pipe (as well as a drill and a bungee cord to properly hold it to your rig).

While we think these DIY projects are great, we’re not sure how good they’d be for extended stays at an RV park. Not to mention, you’d have to find a good place to store these when on the road.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to your sewer system, you don’t want to play around. Having a good sewer hose support made with sturdy lightweight plastic is incredibly important (and, as we said above, it’s sometimes required to have at RV parks).
