1. Best Overall: Outdoorsy

BROWSE RV RENTALS

Outdoorsy was founded by Jennifer Young and Jeff Cavins after realizing they didn’t want to work “under fluorescent lights” any longer. They were sick of office work and wanted to spend more time outdoors. Thus, Outdoorsy was born – and has since become the second largest recreational vehicle rental company online. Read the full Outdoorsy founding story here.

Outdoorsy is known for being the “Airbnb of RV rental companies.” Being a disruptor in the standard RV rental space, Outdoorsy provides peer-to-peer rentals, making it a seamless experience for everyone involved. You’re able to get a full and extensive range of vehicles through Outdoorsy.

Similar to Airbnb, the platform also allows renters to leave detailed reviews that provide insight into what you might expect. Outdoorsy also offers renters industry-leading liability insurance up to $1 million, and customer service is available around the clock.

Outdoorsy

Outdoorsy Features and Benefits

Why rent from Outdoorsy? Here are just a few reasons they’re our favorite:

  • Up to $1 Million Insurance on Approved Bookings
  • 24/7 RV Rental Roadside Assistance
  • Search for RV Rentals Online (No Need to Call Anyone)
  • Thousands of Camper & Motorhome Rental Options
  • Over 5,000 5-Star Reviews

Outdoorsy also has pickup locations all over the US, Canada and Mexico, so you’re able to rent a home on wheels from nearly anywhere. All you have to do is enter your vacation destination, choose your pick up and drop off dates, and browse thousands of RV search results!

Outdoorsy Reviews (4.87/5)

Outdoorsy has received over 5,000 reviews, averaging 4.87 out of 5 stars. Better yet, they’ve scored an A+ from the Better Business Bureau (BBB), with nearly 5 stars across 76 reviews.

Outdoorsy Pricing

Outdoorsy’s RV rental prices vary massively from state to state and even city to city. This is because the RVs are rented by individual owners, not by the company itself, so those owners set the prices. That said, the RV rental prices usually reflect the market for your particular area, so they should always be at or below average rental prices.

Here are the typical rental prices across the board:

  • Class A: $175 to $275 per night.
  • Class B: $100 to $200 per night.
  • Class C: $150 to $200 per night.
  • Travel Trailer: $50 to $125 per night.
  • Fifth Wheel: $60 to $150 per night.
  • Pop Up Trailer: $50 to $100 per night.

To figure out a good price, simply browse the available RVs and see what the average rig is going for.

Pro Tip: Some RV owners offer winter special rental rates to drive business in the off-season. If you don’t mind picking a rental destination in the south (like Orlando FL) during the colder months, this can be a great way to save some money!

Bonus: Some RVs come with unlimited mileage! Others are free up to a certain point (say 100 miles), then cost more over those set miles.

2. Best Customer Service: RVezy

RVezy Logo

RVezy is coming in at #2 because of their excellent customer service. They have the best service out of all the recreational vehicle rental agencies on this list.

RVezy Website

Features & Benefits

Why rent from RVezy? Here are just a few reasons they’re our favorite…

  • Up to $1 Million Insurance on Approved Bookings
  • 24/7 RV Rental Roadside Assistance
  • Search for RV Rentals Online (No Need to Call Anyone)
  • Thousands of Camper & Motorhome Rental Options

They also have pickup locations all over the US and Canada!

The company was founded in 2016 by Mike McNaught and Will Thompson after realizing their own private RV rentals were leading to a significant amount of extra income. They even have an episode on Dragon Den!

RVezy Reviews (4/5)

RVezy has only received a handful of reviews on the BBB website, and most of them are poor.

However, they’ve received much better praise on verified-reviews.com, with almost 10/10 stars!

Pricing

RVezy’s prices are about the same as Outdoorsy’s:

  • Class A: $175 to $275 per night.
  • Class B: $100 to $200 per night.
  • Class C: $150 to $200 per night.
  • Travel Trailer: $50 to $125 per night.
  • Fifth Wheel: $60 to $150 per night.
  • Pop Up Trailer: $50 to $100 per night.

Again, though, keep in mind that this can vary depending on where you’re renting, the RV types, and even if local events or holidays like Labor Day are going on. To figure out a good price, simply browse the available RVs and see what the average rig is going for.

3. Best Value: RVshare

RVshare Camper Rental Company Logo

Following Outdoorsy is RVshare.com, another of the best places to rent RVs.

Like Outdoorsy, RVshare is a peer-to-peer rental system. Anyone who is approved and owns an RV can rent their rig to you for a set price. And they also have camper vans, travel trailer rentals, tent camper rentals, motor home rentals, and more.

RVshare

Features & Benefits

Here are a few reasons RVshare made it to this list:

  • Up To $500,000 Liability & $200,000 RV Value Coverage Insurance
  • 24/7 RV Rental Roadside Assistance
  • Rent Your RV Online Without Calling Anyone
  • Thousands of Camper & Motorhome Rental Options
  • 5% Cash-Back Loyalty Program

They’re very similar to Outdoorsy, with tons of rental locations across multiple countries. But we recommend you rent a camper from Outdoorsy over RVshare because of their higher insurance coverage and better reviews.

RVshare Reviews (4/5)

RVshare has received over 150 4-Star reviews on Trustpilot. So they’ve gotten some pretty decent feedback.

However, they have a B- rating from the BBB, with over 75 complaints from customers, most of them saying RVshare isn’t responding to customer support emails.

Pricing

RVshare has roughly the same camper and motorhome rental prices as Outdoorsy:

  • Class A: $175 to $275 per night.
  • Class B: $100 to $200 per night.
  • Class C: $150 to $200 per night.
  • Travel Trailer: $50 to $125 per night.
  • Fifth Wheel: $60 to $150 per night.
  • Pop Up Trailer: $50 to $100 per night.

Again, though, keep in mind that this can vary depending on where you’re renting, the type of camper, and even if special events are going on. To figure out a good price, simply browse the available RVs and see what the average rig is going for.

Also, some RVs come with unlimited miles! Others are free up to a certain point (say 100 miles), then cost more over those set miles.

3. Best Traditional Rental: Cruise America

Cruise America RV Rental & Sales

Cruise America.com, unlike RVshare or Outdoorsy, is a corporate recreational vehicle rental agency.

Rather than using cutting edge peer-to-peer rental systems, they simply own a fleet of motorhomes and travel trailers they rent out from their RV rental centers. They don’t have specialty recreational vehicles like camper van rentals or tent camper rentals. Just campers for rent from their fleet.

Cruise America

This has it’s pros and cons, the biggest con being RV rental prices. It’s much more expensive to rent an RV from Cruise America than it is to rent one from Outdoorsy.

They also have fewer RV rental locations, since they’re limited by the number of headquarters they can build, and round trip vacation rentals can be expensive.

On the plus side, they do offer one-way RV rentals, which are extremely cheap RV rentals (as low as $1/day). The downside of this of course being you have to fly or drive back to your home state once you drop off your rig, and you’re limited with the destinations you can actually visit.

Feel free to call them at (703) 392-1449 to get more information.

Features & Benefits

The benefits of Cruise America are that you get a very clean, guaranteed to run rig. Don’t get me wrong – it’s awesome that there’s a sense of security with this.

However, the entire rental process is longer and more complex, and you’re much more limited with the kinds of RVs you can rent and where you can rent them compare to the other two companies on this list. They don’t even have towable camper trailer rentals, just motorized campers.

Cruise America Reviews (1.75/5)

Holy moly, this company has gotten some bad rep. They have a C+ review on the BBB with an average 1.75/5 stars out of 10 reviews.

Cruise America Reviews

In fact, it got so bad the BBB website put a warning at the top of the page:

CA Rental Rates

If you’re really still interested in using this company and want to know their prices, here you go:

The price varies by a ton of factors, and you have to put in all your trip details to get a price. On average, most trips cost at least $99 per night. That sounds like a great deal, but they also charge $0.35 per mile, which adds up.

To make matters worse, they charge extra for common courtesies like kitchen utensils and bedding. But to be fair, here’s the button for rental information:

Note: There are many other popular RV rental companies, such as El Monte RV, but we didn’t include them as they aren’t as popular. Plus, getting a rental from El Monte RV (and the other corporations) has many of the same cons as Cruise America.
